Not Without My Sisters

Another great book I want to recommend, sorry for taking so long to finish it. I found this book on the Social Psychology session in Borders and bought it for only RM 38.90. Worth the money spent because this is really a great true stories about a cult that have existed in U.S for some time.
What have gotten me interested with this book isĀ a news I watched over CNN when I was in U.S last April. In Texas, they have discovered a cult that stays in their own community, have their own school and also dairy factory. The parents are asked to be “shared” among their community and in the end, lots of children end up not knowing who are their real parents. This news came as a shock to me and to see how extreme those believers are that they did not realize it was a wrong path. It is as though they are hypnotized. In the video, all women are dressed up the same and they even have the same hairstyle. Police have difficulties identifying the real parents for the children in that community and had to do a DNA test to check. It leaves a very strong impression in my memory.
Not Without My Sister, is a true story based on the experience of three sisters living in this so-called community (cult) and was taught to believe in it since they were babies. Kristina and Julianna shared the same father, while Celeste and Kristina are from the same father and mother. Complicated, huh?
All three of them grew up being abused physically and psychologically. They are separated from each other and from their parents, traveling most of their time without proper education. As young as 10 years old, they have been taught that sex means love and sex is the highest level of love. Everyone are free to have sex with each other regardless of age, even a boy as young as 12 years old can have sex with an elderly woman as old as 50 years old.
The cult was started by a guy that called himself the prophet and known as Mo. Everyone in the community has never met him and his wife and the younger ones called him Grandpa. All his beliefs and teachings are sent to his followers through letters.
Read this book to find out the true story behind pain, tears and childhood of these three sisters. Learn how they make their way out of this ridiculous cult.
