Heavenly Bali (Updated)
Nov
I have been to the real Bali and tried the food there. It was awesome and I love the fragrances of the spices used in the food. When I came back to Malaysia, I started hunting for Bali food. I tries Bumbu Bali in Bandar Puteri Puchong and thought that was good. Next time I am there again, I will blog about it. Thought it was good, yes, but on Friday I came across this new place for Bali style food by accident. I had no idea they serve Balinese food but have always been curious about this place. Each time I go to work or out of Puchong, I will for sure passed by this cafe. This particular cafe The Waterlily Cafe, a quiet cafe resides in the IOI Business Park just across the IOI Mall has attracted me to stop by for a drink after gym on Friday. The best part was I get to park for free right in front of the cafe like a valet services only better since it is free!
The place is so romantic with dim lighting and candle on the table. The dining area is separated to open air and closed area. I of course preferred the open area because at 10.00 at night you can feel the wind and fresh air compared to the stuffy closed area. Not many customers there that night so it is a good spot for friends to get together and laugh themselves out.
As I walk near the cafe, I notice this particular area right in front of it. It seems like a work area, and slowly I realized it is a barbeque area. Smokes were rising up the air, the same smoke I once thought was the cooling ventilation. But, what was the whole barbeque area for? Could it be for satay because it sure looks Malay to me. I could not wait for the answer so quickly hurried in to select our seating spot.
I did not intend to eat anything at first since it is already so late. A drink and chat with my friends was all I wanted until the minute the waiter brought the menu up. They are serving Balinese food and that area I saw earlier was for the Balinese barbeque…yummy! They have like Nasi Lemak Bali, Balinese barbequed lamb or chicken or squid or beef and there are so much other Balinese food. God forbid, my appetite “worm” starts crawling in my stomach.
I ended up with more than a drink but I am not a greedy person so I had to only choose one food to go with my drink. I decided to order the barbeque squid and a glass of Mango soda.
The food was served fast but this could be because there were not many people around. I think about 10 minutes later all our food and drinks was served. To be precise, I was the only one ordering food.
I totally feel grateful that I decided to get some food to try because it is heavenly. The squid is served with baked potato wedges as well. The squid is nicely marinated so you could really taste the spices in it and the fragrant of lemon grass. It was really superb and the baked potato wedges was definitely not like anything I tasted before. It is sweet and crunchy. The whole dish was served on a banana leave and that you can guess have added up the wonderful fragrant.
The mango soda was nothing much to brag on but I guarantee you will find all the satisfaction in the food.
Anyhow, everything has its good and bad. So does Waterlily cafe. At nearly 11.30, there were little rats around the area and they were playing under the bushes happily as though announcing it is their party time.
*I have got more photos to post since my dinner at Waterlily cafe yesterday. For starter, we had mushroom soup. It is not those ordinary campbell soup so rest assured it is really homemade mushroom soup. There is a garlic bread to go with it, shitake and button mushrooms as well. The great thing is that when you order a cobination set, just add RM 5 to get a bowl of mushroom soup and an ice blended drink. I know they serve very large portion here so my sister and I decided to share a main course which is the combination chicken and lamb set and a side dish of fish grilled salad.
You can order the combination chicken set with fish, lamb, beef or squid. It is all marinated the Balinese style and grilled to perfection. Grilled potatoes and salad are served on the side with barbeque sauce. Lucky us that we shared because it is quite filling by the time we finish the main course.
The grilled fish salad is a good go. At least it balances the diet for our dinner. The fish is fresh and the salad is served with a special sauce. The cause is a little spicy and sour. Something like those sauce you get when you eat grilled fish at hawker stalls.
What a great feast!
